Who Are CCR? – #333 Rubix Crude

What she says…

“I’ve already hit the wall, you can hurt me no more than that did!”

(See bout preparation below!)

What they say…

“Rubix you are EVERYWHERE!”

Why Derby? (And why CCR?)

I was visiting friends in London and they told me to go along with them and watch some Roller Derby. At first I thought what the hell is this Roller Derby thing? But I paid for my ticket bought some booze, sushi and went along regardless.  I was watching my friend Amy A.K.A RAW HEIDI .357 play for her intra league as part of LRG and I just remember thinking that it was amazing. I hadn’t got a clue what was going on but I soon got into the atmosphere whooping and screaming as the jammers got though. I guess you could say I was hooked straight away. After watching I then said something daft like ‘I wish they did this kind of thing up by me!’.  It was then I found out that there were leagues all over the country! I was told about the amazing CCR. So I got back home and straight away had a little look on the internet. I found CCR and emailed to ask all about it. The rest they say is history…

Is there a story behind you name and number?

At first I wanted to be called something to do with my name Gail but most of the clever ones had gone so I then thought about having something that was associated with the 80’s. Eventually I came up with Rubix Crude mainly because I have tendencies to lack tact; basically I’m immature! Rubix because I’m difficult, awkward and annoying. The number 3x3x3 is the Rubik’s cube but I have had to shorten it to 333 due to WFTDA rules!

Spread the love! Who do you admire in the World of Derby?

After seeing Anarchy in the UK I would have to say Dolly Rocket. She is an amazing Pivot with some exciting footwork going on. My Derby goal is to be agile enough with the fitness to match to be able to pivot like Joy Collision or Dolly Rocket!

What’s your top tip for bout/practice preparation?

I always make sure I have a headscarf with me and I like to smash into a wall at some point just before I get on track. It helps me prepare for that blocker wanting to smack me down at the start of the game, because I think to myself : ‘i’ve already hit the wall, you can hurt me no more that that did!’. Usually works! 😀

What is your favourite post bout tipple?

Anything alcoholic. I usually have a nice cold lager to start though as this is usually gone in minutes! But whatever I am drinking I keep it away from Viv La as she tries to steal my drinks!!!
