On Saturday 14th April, Disco Beaters claimed victory against the Queens of Steel in the last Intra-League heat of the season with the final score being DB 120 – QoS 112.
The first half of the game saw a close faught battle, typical of CCR Intra League match ups. Neither team held a dominating lead, and the first half closed with Queens of Steel mainting a slight lead over the Disco Beaters, 57 – 49.
The second half saw the Disco Beaters come out fighting, but Queens of Steel effectively exploited power plays to bridge their lead out to 102 – 69 halfway through. Not to be outdone, the Disco’s were able to claw the defecit back with a power play of their own, but Queens kept the lead for the majority of the second half. It was not until the last jam of the game, where Discos scored a massive 25 points in one power jam, that the Disco’s took the lead. A nailbiting game for all and heatbreaking loss for the Queens finished 120 – 112 to the Disco Beaters.
The Discos (defending champions) now meet the Bad Apples in the Intra-League final in June. They will be looking to repeat last years success where they beat the Bad Apples in the final, despite having lost to them earlier in the season. Bad Apples have only suffered that one loss through two Intra League seasons and will also have their minds set on lifting that elusive trophy.
