CCR swap eight wheels for two and take over Birmingham

Skaters, refs and NSOs from Central City Roller girls (CCR) are painting the city pink and black on Saturday 14th July, by taking part in a mass bicycle ride in the city centre.

The league is using the event for two reasons – to promote their first game of the season against Big Bucks Rollergirls on 8th September; and to train for the first WFTDA European championships in Berlin in November.

League coach Barry Fight says the first bout of the season it’s a crucial game for Centrinnians. “The first game of the season will be very a important part of CCR’s prep for the up coming Euro tournament. Big Bucks is one of the strongest of the younger teams, so will give us a really tough game. I’m expecting a really hard fought bout.”

“”Roller derby brings these skaters together from all different corners of life, once they’re on that track, there’s no stopping them. The women involved in CCR mean business – they work hard, they train hard, and they play hard.”

The big CCR bike ride starts in the Cannon Hill area of the city and will hit Birmingham Cathedral on Colmore Row at Noon – please tweet us pics if you spot any riders to @the_CCR .
