Rainy City Roller Girls 249 – 196 Central City Rollergirls

RainyIn their first game of the 2013/14 season, on 8th September CCR Centrinnians traveled North to take on Rainy City Roller Girls. Bex Luther tells us how the day unfolded below…

CCR arrived to stunning sunshine and a warm welcome from the home team. These two teams have met before in three closely matched bouts in February 2010 (115-104 Rainy City), November 2010 (84-85 CCR) and February 2011 (150-113 CCR); and this bout proved to be just as nail biting.

The first 15 minutes saw CCR dominate the lead with a 21 point lead thanks to tight walls, and strong jamming. CCR’s luck in the rainy city was to be short lived as the home team closed the gap with two high scoring power jams and left CCR reeling to finish the first half with a score of 145-99 to RCRG.

Rainy 2The second half was a battle to the death between two determined and ambitious teams. Both teams gave away and monopolised a number of power jams which saw CCR begin to close the gap on their hosts. There was jammer on jammer action and some uncompromising hits from both teams but RCRG managed to hold their lead and the day ended with a score of 249-196 to Rainy City.

So now it’s Even-Stevens, two bouts to two. When will they meet again to settle the score?

ROSTER: 42 Agent Dana Scurry (Captain), 19 Woo-Ha! (Co-Capt), 3 Tinchy Slider, 10 Bunny Massacre, 29 Gerty Go-Go, 57 Viv La France, 69 Verry Cherry, 82 Hustle’Her, 85 Tenacity, 119 Scarlette McCabre, 434 Dr InKnockulator, 707 Jelly Mean, 800 Ghouldielocks, 5000 Boots Manuva. Bench: Rubix Crude. Line Ups: Kat Fight’Her

Centrinnians will be in action again this Sunday (15th September) where they face Gent Go Go Rollergirls in a WFTDA Sanctioned event. The event is a double header with, the Crash Test Brummies meeting the South West Silures, both fresh from the Men’s Euros. First whistle is at 1.30pm at Doug Ellis Sports Centre, nr Perry Barr Greyhound Track. Tickets linkhttp://centralcityrollergirls.moonfruit.com/ Tickets: £7 adv (£8 on the door) VIP tickets: £15 (luxury seating & goody bag) Concessions: £5 (pensioners, students with ID, 12-16 year olds). Kids: under 12 free.

Slay Belles set to visit Severn Roller Torrent

CCR SRT Poster

On Sunday 28th July CCR will make the short trip down the M5 to play Severn Roller Torrent. The leagues last met in November 2012 when the Raging Belles took on SRT at home in Birmingham. In that meeting SRT got off to a strong start, but Ragers managed to come away with a win 150 – 128.

Since then SRT have shown consistently strong performances in their bouts in the Heartland Series and at CCR, many of last years Ragers are now representing the league in the Slay Belles, who are hungry for victory fresh from their recent defeat to Newcastle Roller Girls.

The event opens with a mixed bout featuring players from all around the country. Good luck goes to the three CCR girls playing in this, which is due to start just before 3pm, with Slays versus SRT following at around 5.15. You can find more details (Including how to get tickets) at the facebook event here

This bout will be the last of CCR’s 2012/13 season so we hope to see you there! As always, if you can’t get to Gloucester on Sunday you can follow us at twitter @the_ccr for updates on the day. CCR are next in action when the Centrinnians open the 2013/14 season with a WFTDA sanctioned bout against Gent Go-Go Rollergirls on September 15th. For more info on this (and the Crash Test Brummies game at the same event) please see the facebook event here.
